London’s Ramadan Lights Illuminate West End for Fourth Year
The dazzling Ramadan lights display is set to return to London's West End for its fourth consecutive year, illuminating Coventry Street near Piccadilly Circus from February 18 to March 24, 2026. This spectacular installation, featuring over 30,000 LED bulbs, is inspired by intricate Islamic geometric patterns and the celestial symbols associated with Ramadan. Ramadan itself is a significant global month for the Muslim community, dedicated to fasting, prayer, reflection, and heightened community involvement, and these lights serve as a vibrant public celebration of its values.
The illuminations will be active nightly from 5 pm to 5 am, covering both the Ramadan period and Eid al-Fitr. Initially wishing Londoners a ‘Happy Ramadan,' the message will transition to ‘Happy Eid' as Ramadan concludes on March 18. Rahima Aziz BEM, Trustee at Aziz Foundation, emphasizes that “Ramadan Lights London is our open invitation to people of all beliefs and backgrounds to come together and experience the values at the heart of Ramadan.” The initiative proudly stands as a “shining symbol of London's rich diversity, reflecting the warmth, coexistence and community spirit that make this city so incredible.”
The tradition began in 2023 when Mayor of London Sadiq Khan switched on the city's first Ramadan lights, marking them as the first aerial lights of their kind in Western Europe. These free displays have since become a cherished fixture of London's winter season. While details for 2026's accompanying events are yet to be announced, previous years have featured engaging activities such as an interactive light installation in Leicester Square, an Iftar food trail, and a community lantern project, further enhancing the celebratory and inclusive atmosphere for all visitors. The absence of mentioned risks underscores the purely positive and unifying nature of this annual event.
