The experiment revealed a spectrum of outcomes, from superficially impressive to hilariously flawed. For “Christmas in Tudor London,” the AI produced a plausible 16th-century scene, despite an anachronistic Christmas tree. Similarly, a “feast with thousands of poor Victorians” was initially impressive, though closer inspection revealed grotesque facial distortions. However, the “risks” and significant limitations of the AI quickly became apparent. Other attempts veered into the bizarre and disturbing: a “Santa in his sleigh” featured a revolver-wielding Santa, a one-hoofed reindeer, and a multi-storey St Paul’s. “Victorian London, but with dinosaurs” yielded a T-Rex with too many legs. More unsettling were the interpretations of “Charles Dickens switches on the Oxford Street Christmas lights,” which was deemed disturbing, and “Dick Whittington and his cat,” producing surreal, bipedal felines with anatomical oddities. Even a “Muppet Christmas Carol” included a disembodied Muppet head.
Ultimately, while the AI occasionally captured the spirit of a prompt or produced a superficially convincing image, its consistent anachronisms, anatomical errors, and bizarre interpretations underscored its unsuitability for accurate historical or editorial content. The author concluded that the AI’s value lay more in its capacity for generating entertaining, albeit flawed, seasonal fun rather than reliable visual representations.
