Bloomsbury Festival 2025: History, Art, and Culture
The Bloomsbury Festival, running from October 17-19, 2025, celebrates the history and culture of London’s Bloomsbury district. This year’s theme, “The Paths We Tread,” explores the area’s streets through various events, many free to attend. Highlights include talks on the history of the rookery and St. Giles’ songs, walks highlighting historic trees and locations associated with Dickens and William Morris, and two site-specific art exhibitions. “Quicken,” by Dryden Goodwin, uses etched metal plates to reanimate the presence of individuals from St. Giles’ past, while “The Streets Of Bloomsbury and St Giles” features contemporary responses to historic artworks and street songs. The festival also features a diverse range of events, including bell-ringing, a Welsh market, an audio play, and a new wave theatre and music program. Public art installations by Michael Craig-Martin will further enliven Russell Square throughout October. The festival offers a rich tapestry of artistic expression, historical exploration, and community engagement, making it a vibrant celebration of Bloomsbury’s unique character.
