Chelsea History Festival 2025: Unveiling London’s Past
The Chelsea History Festival, returning for its seventh year from September 24th to 28th, 2025, promises a diverse program exploring local, national, and international history. Jointly hosted by the National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Chelsea, and Chelsea Physic Garden, the festival boasts over 80 events. This year’s highlights include talks by renowned historian Paula Akpan, shedding light on influential African women often omitted from historical narratives; an interview with Emily Maitlis and Mark Gwynne, discussing Gwynne’s father’s wartime letters; and a walking tour exploring Chelsea’s vibrant punk history of the 1970s. Visitors can also enjoy exclusive tours of the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s State Apartments, led by Chelsea Pensioners, and performances by the Chelsea Pensioner Singers. Two new exhibitions add to the richness of the festival: ‘Lost and Found in Hong Kong,’ showcasing the contributions of Chinese Royal Navy heroes during D-Day, and ‘Beyond Burma,’ opening at the National Army Museum on September 16th.
