London Cabbies Run for Historic Green Shelters

London Cabbies Run for Historic Green Shelters

Ten London black cab drivers, forming the Green Hut Run Club, will undertake a 16-mile run on September 24, 2025, visiting all 13 remaining Grade II-listed green cabmen’s shelters. These shelters, built between 1875 and 1914, originally provided respite and security for cabbies and their horse-drawn carriages. Now, only 13 remain, requiring significant upkeep due to age and occasional damage, as exemplified by the Cromwell Gardens shelter which remains closed after a car accident. The run aims to raise £100,000 for the shelters’ preservation, highlighting their historical significance as iconic landmarks representing London’s heritage. The runners will photograph each shelter along their route, using their professional knowledge of London’s streets to navigate the course. Donations are being accepted via a JustGiving page to support this vital fundraising effort for these unique structures.
